ABOUT THE BOOK
Bold, Brave and a Bit Quirky is part memoir, part manifesto, and part mischievous nudge to anyone who’s ever had an idea they’ve felt too scared, or too busy, to bring to life.
Paul Fairweather – artist, speaker, and unapologetic experimenter – shares stories from his life and work, with ideas and insights alongside whimsical watercolours, to inspire the courage to create and the confidence to connect.
From chance encounters to left-field projects, from childhood memories to professional lessons (often learned the hard way), Paul shows how creativity isn’t about waiting for inspiration – it’s about noticing, starting, and daring to share.
This is not a ‘how-to’ book. It’s a ‘why-not?’ book.
Playful, practical, and occasionally profound, Bold, Brave and a Bit Quirky will remind you that creativity at any age can bring a little zest into your life

MEET PAUL FAIRWEATHER
Paul Fairweather CSP was once described as equal parts zen and espresso. He has had a long and winding career: award-winning architect, Archibald Prize finalist, CEO, business owner, coach, developer, designer, inventor, illustrator, and co-founder of TEDxBrisbane.Somewhere along the way, he also tried his hand at singing, pottery, printmaking, filmmaking, art installations, stand-up comedy, and furniture design with varied results — but the experiments kept the stories flowing.
These days, Paul is a Certified Speaking Professional, writer, artist, and co-host of The Common Creative podcast. He delivers keynotes, runs workshops, and delivers programs that give people the courage to create and the confidence to connect — often with a splash of watercolour and a twist of lemon.
He lives in Brisbane, Australia, with his wife, two teenagers, and Pixie the black Labrador, who is unimpressed by all of this.
Paul’s work reminds us that creativity isn’t a luxury — it’s a human necessity. With quiet courage and a touch of mischief, he invites us to see the extraordinary in the everyday. Bold, Brave and a Bit Quirky is a reminder that art, story, and play aren’t hobbies on the side of life — they are the very practices that can bring us alive and make our lives meaningful.

Each vignette and its apt illustration inspired me to live each day with more curiosity compulsion and almost childlike curiosity

A beautiful creation worth a look. Paul has a quiet charisma that shines through every page of this book. He’s a talented artist and a natural storyteller who, for years, has been entrancing audiences from the stage and in workshops with his humour, humanity, and those whimsical watercolours. Now, with Bold, Brave and a Bit Quirky, he brings that same presence to the written word. The stories are playful, disarming, and quietly profound — proof that creativity doesn’t shout, it invites you in.
